Attacks began immediately after the start, and 7 riders’ breakaway was formed by Nahom Zeray Araya (Team UKYO), Alessandro Iacchi (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali), Nils Sinschek (Lining Star), Fergus Browning (Terengganu Cycling Team), Hijiri Oda (Aisan Racing Team), Elliott Schultz (Victoire Hiroshima), and Mattias Malmberg (Swatt Club).

Browning and Sinschek each took first place at the intermediate sprint points held after laps one and three.

The breakaway's advantage reached nearly three minutes, but Team UKYO controlled the peloton and gradually reduced the gap. After the circuit section ended and the riders entered the Fujiazami Line climb, only Browning and Sinschek remained at the front. Browning then attacked solo with 9.6km remaining.

Meanwhile, Solution Tech NIPPO Rali began driving the pace in the peloton with a powerful team effort.

No rider was able to respond to the fast-pace, and the group steadily thinned out. With 4.6km remaining, Kamiel Bonneu and Matteo Fabbro (both Solution Tech NIPPO Rali) caught Browning. Four kilometers from the finish, the two teammates moved clear together.

Bonneu led for several kilometers, but with 2 km remaining Fabbro accelerated and went clear alone. He maintained his advantage to the finish, taking victory. Bonneu finished second, 32 seconds behind, while Eduardo Sepulveda (Lining Star) completed the podium at 51 seconds. The best Japanese rider was Yuhi Todome (Aisan Racing Team), who finished 11th, 2 minutes and 7 seconds behind the winner.

Matteo Fabbro (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali) Stage Winner & Overall Leader (Green Jersey)
“I focused on riding at full speed to the finish and creating a gap to the other riders. I never expected a one-two finish for the team. When Camille and I were alone at the front, we agreed to stay together until the finish. However, we were not informed of the time gap behind, and Camille was also suffering, so I decided to go solo in the final kilometers.
From the beginning of the climb, Finkšt, Iacchi, Bonneu and I increased the pace to prevent attacks from other teams. Now I want to defend not only my overall lead but also Camille’s second place all the way to Tokyo.”

Tommaso Dati (Team UKYO) Points Classification Leader (Blue Jersey)
“Mt. Fuji was extremely hard. I hoped to defend the leader’s jersey, but in the end, I realized it was mission impossible. I gave everything today, but I still believe we will have another opportunity to win a stage tomorrow. From now on, this points jersey becomes our main goal in the Tour of Japan.”

Genki Yamamoto (Kinan Racing Team) Mountains Classification Leader (Red Jersey)
“Today I rode carefully to avoid wasting energy. For Kinan, the ideal situation tomorrow is to place riders who are not competing for the mountains classification into the breakaway and take away the mountain points. Rein Taaramäe will help us as well. Otherwise, I will have to join the breakaway myself and fight again. If I end up battling the Swatt Club riders directly in the break, I will need to cross at least one mountain point first.”

Will Heath (CCACHE × Bodywrap) Best Young Rider (White Jersey)
“I thought I had learned how tough the Azami Line was from last year, but I had forgotten how demanding the circuit section beforehand could be. By the time we reached the climb, my legs were already feeling tired.
My teammates guided both Matthew Greenwood and me to the base of the climb, and after that it was up to us. I’m extremely grateful for all their support.”
