This trade team has staged a sensational comeback after recruiting overseas riders. At the head of the roster this year is Michele Rezzani, who was with last year's Italian team, which finished 4th overall. Then there is also Andrea Guidotti, a Swiss rider who was the overall winner of the '95 Tour de Hokkaido and who came in 3rd in the '96 European International Race. In total, four non-Japanese riders have been picked as starters. If only because it is a team sets out to emulate the European club system, the Nippon Hodo team should pedal up a storm in the competition this year.

　実業団チームとして初めて海外の選手を迎え、センセーショナルを巻き起こした日本鋪道レーシングチーム。今年は昨年イタリアチームとして総合４位のミケーレ・レッツァーニを筆頭に、'95 年ツール・ド・北海道総合優勝、'96年ヨーロッパ・インターナショナルレースで３勝を挙げたスイスのアンドレア・グイドッティなど、４人の外国籍の選手がメンバーに加わった。ヨーロッパクラブチームの体制を目指すチームだけに、今大会の台風の目になる可能性は大きい。
